55 verticals · 5 demand patterns

There aren't 55 industries. There are five patterns.

Every agency page like this one lists dozens of verticals and implies deep expertise in all of them. Nobody has that. What actually exists is a much smaller set of demand patterns - five of them - and the pattern your business sits in decides the plan far more than the word above your door does. An emergency plumber and an emergency dentist need nearly identical sites. A steel fabricator and a fractional CFO also need nearly identical sites, and nothing like the plumber's.

The short version

What industry-specific SEO and web design actually costs

Waystar Studio charges $250 a week for SEO and $1,000 one-time for a business website, in every vertical on this page. There is no industry premium, because the underlying work doesn't change enough to justify one. What changes is the priority order - which pages get built first, whether ads or SEO carries the early months, and what counts as a result.

The framework

Five demand patterns, and yours decides the plan

Read these and you'll recognise your business in one of them within about ten seconds. That recognition is worth more than any list of verticals, because it tells you what to build first and where not to spend.

Pattern 01

Emergency

Someone needs you in the next hour

A burst pipe at 11pm. A tooth cracked on a Sunday. A tree through the roof. The searcher has no loyalty, no shortlist and no patience - they call whoever appears first and answers.

  • Tappable phone number before any scrolling
  • Service area stated plainly, not 'the greater metro'
  • Pages light enough to load on one bar of signal
  • Hours and after-hours cover, above the fold
Where the money goesAds carry the first 3 months. SEO compounds after.
TypicallyPlumbers · HVAC · Electricians · Roofers · Water damage · Emergency dental · Towing · Locksmiths · Generator rental
Pattern 02

Considered purchase

Weeks of reading before anyone gets in touch

Implants, braces, a kitchen remodel, solar, a $40k equipment lease. The buyer researches for a fortnight, compares three or four providers, checks financing, and only then makes contact - usually with a shortlist already formed.

  • Cost ranges published, or at least explained
  • Financing and payment terms up front
  • Real project galleries, not stock photography
  • Comparison content - this option vs that one
Where the money goesSEO leads. Ads retarget the people already reading.
TypicallyCosmetic dentistry · Orthodontics · Home remodeling · Med spas · Solar · Equipment financing · Self-storage · RV storage
Pattern 03

Referral-led

Most of your work arrives through someone else

Periodontists, oral surgeons, structural engineers, specialist vets. The patient or client was sent to you. They still google you before the appointment - and the referring professional checked you out before sending them.

  • A page written for referring professionals, not just clients
  • Credentials and case types stated without jargon
  • Turnaround and communication process explained
  • Fast, clean site - it's a credibility check, not a sales pitch
Where the money goesNeither, at first. Profile and reviews come before spend.
TypicallyPeriodontics · Endodontics · Oral surgery · Veterinary specialists · Physical therapy · Medical billing · Land surveyors · Fractional CFOs
Pattern 04

B2B technical

Your buyer qualifies you before they ever call

Procurement managers and engineers. They search a spec, a certification, an alloy, a tolerance. They read your capability pages end to end and rule you out on your site long before a conversation happens. Map pack is irrelevant here.

  • Capability pages with real specs and tolerances
  • Certifications visible - AS9100, ASME, ISO, AISC, NFPA
  • Downloadable spec sheets and line-card content
  • Clear statement of what you don't do
Where the money goesSEO almost entirely. These buyers rarely click ads.
TypicallyCNC machining · Pressure vessel fabrication · Metal fabrication · Injection molding · Structural steel · Automation integrators · Medical device contract manufacturing · Freight brokers
Pattern 05

Discovery

People find you while browsing, not searching

Restaurants, boutiques, gyms, pet services. Search still matters, but a chunk of demand arrives through maps, social, and people looking around rather than looking for you specifically. Volume is high, intent is soft.

  • Hours and location correct everywhere, always
  • Photos that do the selling - the room, the food, the space
  • Menu or class schedule as text, not a PDF or an image
  • Instant load - a hungry person waits two seconds
Where the money goesProfile and reviews first. Then social. SEO third.
TypicallyRestaurants · Cafes · Fitness studios · Boutiques · Pet grooming · Equine services · Wellness · Mobile IV therapy

Plenty of businesses straddle two. A restoration company runs emergency water damage and planned mould remediation at the same time, and those need separate pages in different tones - one urgent, one reassuring. Putting both on one page usually means neither converts.

Before you spend anything

Search volume varies by a factor of a thousand across this page

The same $1,000 a month buys wildly different outcomes depending on how many people are looking. Any agency quoting you without checking this first hasn't checked.

High volume

Thousands of searches, brutal competition

Plumbers, dentists, personal injury lawyers, HVAC. Everyone knows these are valuable, so everyone is bidding and everyone has been doing SEO for a decade. You can absolutely win here, but not in three months and not on the head term first. The way in is the specific stuff - one treatment, one suburb, one problem.

Thin volume

Forty searches a month, each worth thousands

Pressure vessel fabrication. Fire sprinkler inspection. Agricultural drone services. Traffic reporting makes these campaigns look like failures - and they're often the best ROI on our books, because one contract covers a year of fees. Judge these by enquiries, never by sessions.

No volume

Sometimes the honest answer is don't

A handful of verticals genuinely don't have enough search demand to justify a retainer, and we'd rather say so than take it. If nobody in your area is searching for what you do, the money belongs in outbound, trade associations or referral relationships. We'll tell you that on the first call.

What doesn't change

The same eight jobs, in a different order

Whichever pattern you're in, this is the work. The pattern decides which of these comes first and which barely matters for you.

Google Business Profile

Categories, services, service areas, photos, posts. The single biggest lever for emergency and discovery businesses, and close to irrelevant for B2B technical ones.

Critical for 3 of 5 patterns

Service and capability pages

One page per thing you actually want more of. For a trade that's a service, for a manufacturer it's a capability with tolerances and certifications on it.

Every pattern

Copywriting included

Every page written for you. We ask you the questions a customer would and turn the answers into the page. No template document to fill in at midnight.

No word limit

Review generation

Recency matters as much as volume. Decisive for discovery and emergency, quietly important for referral-led, close to irrelevant for B2B.

Ongoing

Speed and Core Web Vitals

Non-negotiable for anyone whose customer is on a phone in a hurry. Still worth doing for B2B, where it's a credibility signal more than a ranking one.

Every build

Forms and tracking that work

Tested end to end before launch. The most expensive silent failure in small business web is a form that stopped delivering four months ago and nobody noticed.

Tested before launch

Weekly reporting

One page every Friday. For thin-volume verticals we report enquiries rather than sessions, because sessions would make good months look like bad ones.

Every Friday

What the premium actually buys elsewhere. A genuine vertical specialist has seen fifty businesses like yours and knows the shortcuts. That's real, and worth paying for if your market is brutal and margins are thick. If you're one practice or one crew in one metro, you're mostly paying for their positioning.

Read row three first. A specialist who has run fifty campaigns in your exact vertical knows things we don't, and if your market is genuinely brutal - personal injury, cosmetic dentistry, anything where a client is worth five figures - that knowledge is worth the premium. We're the better call when your market is normal, your budget is real, and you want the work done properly without paying for someone's positioning. The other columns describe common patterns across the market, not any specific company; ask anyone you're considering to confirm their terms in writing.

Legal

They fixed things on our profile I didn't know were broken - the category was wrong the whole time we'd been open. Rankings moved within a few weeks. What I appreciate most is that I can text and get an actual answer the same day, which was never true with the last company we used.

Industrial cleaning

We do industrial cleaning, and we have started to get 10-20 leads a month extra from our website. And in our industry the search demand is really low and most of it goes to companies running PPC, so even one or two extra clients a month means $40-50K per month for at least a year.

Where these come from. Every quote here is live on Trustpilot or our Google Business Profile under the reviewer's own account, so you can go and read them at the source rather than taking our word for it. We haven't written any of them, and we haven't dropped the short ones or the ones that only mention one thing we did. They cover three verticals, not fifty-five - legal, automotive and industrial cleaning. We have clients in other industries without published case studies, and we'd rather say that than imply depth we can't show you.

Reviews are published as written, with only spelling and punctuation corrected. Results described are those clients' own - lead volume and contract values vary a great deal by industry and service area, and nothing here is a projection of what your business would see.

Questions

Industry marketing, answered plainly

Neither, and the honest answer matters. We don't claim deep expertise in all 55 verticals - nobody has that. What we do have is a framework: almost every local and B2B business falls into one of five demand patterns, and the pattern decides the plan far more than the industry name does. An emergency plumber and an emergency dentist need near-identical sites. A structural steel fabricator and a fractional CFO also need near-identical sites, and nothing like the plumber's.

Emergency, where someone needs you within the hour. Considered purchase, where they research for weeks before making contact. Referral-led, where most work arrives through other professionals. B2B technical, where buyers qualify you on your site before they ever call. And discovery, where people find you while browsing rather than searching. Each changes what the site leads with and whether ads or SEO should carry the early months.

The same as our general local SEO: $250 a week to start, roughly $1,000 a month, month to month. Growth is $500 a week, aggressive $850. Websites are $1,000 one-time, $1,500 with ecommerce. There's no industry premium, because the underlying work doesn't change enough to justify one.

It depends on the pattern, not the vertical. Emergency businesses usually want ads running while SEO builds, because someone with a burst pipe won't wait for you to rank. Referral-led practices often shouldn't buy either until their profile and reviews are sorted. B2B technical buyers rarely click ads at all. We'll tell you which you are on the first call.

Sometimes no, and we'll say so. Several verticals on this page - fire sprinkler inspection, pressure vessel fabrication, agricultural drone services - have tiny search volumes where a page pulling forty visits a month is worth thousands per lead. Others genuinely don't have enough demand to justify a retainer, and for those we'd point you at outbound or trade channels instead.

The structure changes, the components mostly don't. An emergency trade needs a tappable number above the fold and a service-area map. A B2B manufacturer needs capability pages, certifications and spec sheets. A referral-led specialist needs a page written for referring professionals, which most sites skip entirely. Same build process, different priorities.

Yes, and it's more common than the neat categories suggest. A restoration company doing both emergency water damage and planned mould remediation is running two demand patterns at once, and those need separate pages in different tones - one urgent, one reassuring. Putting both on one page usually means neither converts.

Legal, automotive and industrial cleaning, which are the reviews on this page. We have web design and SEO clients across other verticals but not published case studies for each, and we'd rather say that than imply depth we can't show. Ask on the call and we'll tell you honestly whether we've done your exact vertical before.

Find out which pattern you're in

Twenty minutes on a call and you'll know: your demand pattern, what your market actually searches, how contested it is, and whether we're the right spend. Yours to keep either way.
